Bungoma - Police in Cheptais Bungoma County are holding a 40-year-old man who was found with a homemade gun and an improvised bullet.
The man was arrested on Wednesday evening at a food kiosk in Kipsigon market within Chepyuk Ward, after a member of the public who saw him with the firearm tipped police officers.
Cheptais OCPD, Ezekiel Kiche confirmed the incident and thanked members of the public for sharing information with security agents, leading to the arrest of the suspect and recovery of the deadly weapon.
“Somebody saw him with an item bulging out from under his big coat. He suspected that it could have been a gun. He called one of our officers who responded immediately. A short search on the suspect led to the recovery of the homemade gun," explained Kiche.
The police boss warned people owning guns illegally to surrender them to security agents or risk facing the full force of the law.
“We have no room for criminals in Mt Elgon Constituency. Let those with firearms know that we are coming for them,” warned the OCPD.
