A 22-year-old man on Monday lost a limb in a botched attempt to steal goods from a moving train in Webuye.
Isaac Weyusya, a resident of Nabuyole village in Webuye sub county of Bungoma, was compelled to undergo a leg amputation after the train ran on him causing serious injuries on his left leg.
Speaking to the media at Webuye Hospital where he is undergoing treatment, the victim said that they were offloading sugar from a moving train before he slipped and fell off to the rail.
''I was offloading sugar from the train when the accident occurred on Monday at 3am. On noticing that I was ran on by the train my coallegues took off only for a good Samaritan to help me get to the hospital in the morning,'' said Weyusya.
He told the Kenya Railways police that the assailants are known to him.
''They are well known to me. They came to my house to wake me up for the mission at midnight,'' he told the police.
The Webuye police boss Willy Simba confirmed the incident saying that such crimes are common within the region especially where the train slows down to negotiate a corner.
