Man kills woman over KES 10

17 December 2014, 16:11

Nakuru - A man who killed a woman over KES 10 has been jailed for 40 years by the Nakuru High Court after he was found guilty of the offense.

The prosecution told the court that on October 10, 2008 at Ngomongo village, Nyahururu Joseph Maruga stabbed Mercy Lorunye with a knife in his house.

In her testimony, the sister of the deceased, Rose Lemeuri told the court that the accused stabbed her sister after she went to his house demanding for KES 10 he owed her.

Lemeuri said: “My sister gave Maruga KES 20 and he promised to return the change later but he didn’t. My sister then went to Maruga's house to collect her money and that is when he stabbed her.”

The accused tried to escape but the area residents caught up with him and he was later arrested by the police and the knife used was found in his possession.

High Court Judge, Justice Anyara Emukule in his ruling said the prosecution had proved its case beyond reasonable doubt that the accused committed the offence and handed him the sentence.
