Man kills wife, commits suicide

30 October 2014, 16:03 Wilshere

Nauru - A middle aged man on Wednesday hacked his wife to death before committing suicide by hanging himself at Majani Mingi village in  Rongai constituency, Nakuru.

A somber mood engulfed the village as residents tried to come to terms with the incident in which Phillip Chepkwony, 40, stabbed his 33-year-old wife Emmily Chepkonga on the neck, stomach and back.

Neighbours said that the slain wife was the suspect's second wife with whom they had four children aged between three and twelve.

Robert Kimutai, their neighbor, said one of Chepkwoney's younger sons visited his house early in the morning and informed him that his parents had locked themselves in the house and were not opening.

Kimutai added that he went with the boy to their home where he tried to open the door in vain and that is when he called the police.

Crime scene police officers from Nakuru town were forced to break the door where they found the man hanging on the sitting room roof while his wife was covered in a pool of blood in the master bedroom.

Chepkwony is said to have divorced the elder wife over recurrent domestic quarrels.

Prior to the incident, he reportedly threatened to stab one of his sons forcing him to run away.

Solai OCS, Shadrack Kyalo who arrived at the scene called on locals to be solving their differences amicably instead of taking away lives.

The two bodies were taken to the Nakuru County government mortuary.
