Nyeri - A 27-year-old man from Mathira, Nyeri County went berserk and killed his three-year-old step-daughter for failing to read and write letters of the alphabet.
It is alleged that Patrick Githinji killed the nursery schoolgirl while he was assisting her to do homework, since her teacher had advised the parents to be giving her remedial work so that she could catch up with the rest of her classmates in school.
Githinji has however gone into hiding and police have launched a manhunt for him.
According to Nyakio’s mother, Githinji and the daughter were at sitting room when Nyakio failed to pronounce letter B.

“He beat her every time she failed or did anything wrong. They were at the sitting room from 6PM to 10PM while I was in the kitchen preparing supper,” said the mother of two.
She realized that Nyakio had been seriously beaten after she fell unconscious few minutes before supper was served.
The girl was rushed to TumuTumu mission hospital where she was pronounced dead on arrival.
