Nairobi - A man has reportedly killed his younger brother while fighting over a female bar attendant at a local pub at Ruruguti shopping centre in Othaya, Nyeri County.
Residents said scuffle ensued at around 10:30PM on Thursday night at Ndambuki Bar where several youths hurled beer bottles at each other over the woman only identified as Shiru.
John Mwangi, 21, who is a bodaboda operator sustained serious injuries on the head and started bleeding profusely after he was stabbed with a sharp object.
Denis Gitau who was at the scene said he found his two uncles engaging in a battle at the pub with unknown youths.
After the fierce fight, they resolved to ride on a motorcycle back home at the nearby Kariko village.
“He was badly injured on the head and upon reaching Gikira River, he lost control of the motorbike where we fell down. My other uncle rode us home safely. We placed him on bed but he was terribly weak,” said Gitau.
He said that at around 3.AM he could hear his uncle gasping heavily as blood oozed from his head.
Area Assistant Chief Paul Githinji said that they are waiting for investigation report from police over the matter as suspect is ye to be arrested.
However, the pub’s proprietor Gerald Wanjohi refuted claims that the battled occurred inside his premise, claiming that it occurred outside.
Wanjohi said that two brothers turned chaotic and he opted to throw them out of the premise.
“I came to understand that one of the young men was interested in Shiru and that he was vehemently waiting for her to close the business. It is true that the group fought but outside the pub,” said Wanjohi.
