Kakamega - A 34-year-old man stabbed his 51-year-old brother to death at Shironyanga village in Navakholo sub-County, Kakamega, over a glass of chang’aa on Wednesday night.
Reuben Andalo is said to have stabbed Emmanuel Nandwa several times on the chest and neck, killing him instantly.
The area Assistant, Chief Wycliffe Kombo said Andalo, a father of four, picked up a quarrel with his brother after a rendezvous night where they had been drinking in the village shopping center all day.
“They started quarreling at the drinking den and were chased away by other revelers. They continued insulting each other and Andalo was heard telling his brother that he will not take a sip of the alcohol at any cost,” said Kombo.
Kombo, who is a neighbour described the suspect as a short tempered and violent man who battered his wife until she ran away.

“Upon reaching home, they started to fight and in the process, the deceased spilled the liquor. This made the suspect angry. He grabbed a kitchen knife and attacked his old, drunk brother who died on the spot,” said Kombo who cautioned youth to desist from drugs and substance abuse.
"Youth ... should rather channel their energy and time on farming,” pleaded Kombo.
Their mother, Esther Andalo said she heard wailing and screams but thought it was her sons' normal quarreling which they often do when drunk.
“I was feeling unwell in bed. Normally after their drinking, they usually quarrel, insult each other and later sleep but this time I heard the suspect screaming asking his brother to wake up. I was alarmed and went to the scene only to find Nandwa lying in a pool of blood,” said Esther.
She noted that the suspect said he did not mean to kill his brother and asked the mother to call the local administration.
“I called the assistant chief who came and arrested him. He has left me with eight grandchildren and I have no means to provide for them. I plead with well-wishers to come to our aid because what happened was an accident; it could happen in any family,” said Esther.
The suspect is being held at Navakholo police station while the body of the deceased is lying at Kakamega County General Hospital.
