Nakuru - A middle aged man died on Tuesday afternoon after his wooden house caught fire at Mbaruk trading center in the outskirts of Nakuru town.
According to Gilbert Gikuna, who was among the first people to arrive at the scene, the fire started from one of the rooms and quickly spread to other two rooms
“At the time we arrived one of the rooms was already on fire and it spread to the other two rooms,”he said.
Gukuna said they tried helping out the 75 years old man but the enraging fire could not be managed.
He said the deceased was unwell and was sleeping in the house when the fire broke out.
“There was no one else in the house at the time the fire broke out and we could not get in because the fire had spread all over,” he said
Police officers from Mwariki police post could not establish the real cause of the fire immediately saying an investigation will be carried out.
Local residents however faulted fire fighters from Nakuru for taking long to respond to the distress call.
The residents also called on Nakuru County governor Kinuthia Mbugua to increase the number of fire fighting tracks in the county to help deal with cases of inferno.
The body of the deceased was taken to Nakuru Municipal morgue.
