A middle-aged man is feared dead after he was hit by a runaway car near Ruiri Market along the Meru - Maua road within Meru County on Friday evening.
According to an eye witness who wanted to remain anonymous, the motorcyclist, William Mugambi, was riding his motorbike home at around 7.30 pm when he collided head-on with a car moving from the opposite direction.
The witness said the cyclist was trying to overtake a stationary tractor unaware of the car from the opposite direction he said had only one head light.
The motorist is said to have sped off after residents started running towards the scene.
Area residents have complained over the rising incidents of motorcycle accidents in the area with most victims being the youths.
They also called on the motorists in the area to be careful by observing traffic rules and regulations to minimize the number of road accident related deaths.
