Kampala - A 26-year-old man from Mityana district was arrested for stealing her lover's money.
Stephen Masaba reportedly withdrew UGX 600 000 from his lover, Anne Nabiryo's mobile money account without her consent.
Nabiryo told police that Masaba started dating her three months ago but they had never slept together. Last Friday, she accepted to spend the night at his place.
She said that she suspected that Masaba withdrew the money from her phone when she went to bathe that night.
In the morning after going back to her place, she bought airtime from her mobile money account only to receive a shocking message that her balance was UGX 400 000 instead of IUGX 1 000 000.
''I rung Masaba and inquired if he had withdrawn my money but he denied. I decided to use police to catch the culprit.''
Police traced the mobile number where the money was sent through the help of MTN. It was later discovered that it was of her boyfriend, Masaba, leading to his arrest.
He pleaded that he had done so because he had invested a lot of money in the girlfriend and so he was paying himself back.
His statement enraged Nabiryo who jilted Masaba before police saying she cannot date a thief.
She also requested police to hold him until he repays the money.
