A young man has been subjected to 18 months imprisonment by Nyeri court acting chief Magistrate Shadrack Okato after he admitted charges of breaching peace and threatening his father.
Peter Karanja Maina was charged that on January 24 this year at Kangaita village, he intentionally and illegally cut bananas and destroyed his father’s house.
Value of destruction was said to be KES 4 000 owned by the father of accused Dickson Maina.
Prosecution said that on the fateful day at 8.00AM, Maina was in the house when Karanja came and started exchanging bitter words with him claiming he had restrained him from burning charcoal.
The court heard that, Karanja took panga and started slashing his father’s banana plants before destroying the house.
He reported the matter to Kangaita Administration police officers who arrested and escorted him to the police cells.
Karanja told the court that he was denied rights to burn charcoal claiming that the trees were his.
Delivering the ruling, the magistrate said the accused had no mitigation and was not remorseful and therefore deserved the sentence.
