A man was on Friday slapped with 18-month jail term by a Nyeri Magistrate court for shattering his uncle’s car windscreen.
Mwangi Muchemi appeared before Senior Resident Magistrate Christine Wekesa who said the accused person was not remorseful even after committing such an offence.
The court heard that on August 16, 2011 at Muruguru village the accused maliciously damaged the windscreen and window glasses of a Nissan Sunny car worth KES 33 000.
He was also charged with destroying other properties including one household door pane belonging to Willy Kiama Muchemi.
Delivering the ruling, the magistrate said she was satisfied with evidence adduced in court from five witnesses.
Photographs of the car and a metal rod used to commit the crime were produced as exhibits in court, together with a medical report which certified that the accused was mentally fit.
The court had earlier released him on a cash bail of KES 25 000 which was forfeited after he skipped some proceedings which led to issuance of an arrest warrant against him.
In mitigation, the accused informed court that he had a wife and two children who depend on him.
