Nyeri - A man who insulted his mother by calling her a prostitute following a quarrel over maize was Wednesday slapped with a two-year jail term by a Nyeri court.
Samuel Mathenge was found guilty of abusing and insulting his mother, Esther Mumbi by calling her a prostitute and breaking the windowpanes of her house at Kangaita village on March 21, 2014.
In her evidence, Mumbi told the court that she found Mathenge in her kitchen and she requested him to excuse her so that she could prepare supper.
Mathenge confronted the mother, accusing her of stealing maize from his shamba.
She later managed to force him out of the kitchen and lock herself from inside.
Irked by the move, Mathenge started hurling insults at her and broke the windowpanes to gain access to the kitchen, the court heard.
In his submissions, Mathenge told the court that he insulted his mother out of anger because he thought she hated him.
In mitigation, the convict pleaded with the court to be lenient and also asked for forgiveness from his mother.
The judgment was issued by senior resident magistrate Christine Wekesa.
