Nyeri - A 28-year-old man from Laikipia will spend seven years behind bars for stealing 10 sheep worth KES 80 000.
Ebonga Ekawa was sentenced by Nanyuki Senior Resident Magistrate Evanson Bett after pleading guilty to stealing the animals that belonged to John Mulwa on August 2, 2014 at Ngarinyiro village.
According to the prosecution, that day Mulwa was informed that his sheep had been stolen and hence reported the matter to Ngarinyiro police station.
Two days later, he was informed that a woman was selling two of his sheep at Nanyuki open air market.

He went to the market and confirmed that the sheep indeed were his.
The woman said she had bought them from the accused, leading to his arrest.
In mitigation, the accused pleaded for leniency but the magistrate said the court had considered the gravity of the matter and frequency of stock theft in the area hence the sentence.
