Vihiga - A 23-year-old man in possession of Tanzanian army identification card was killed by villagers after a botched robbery attempt at Masana village, South Maragoli in Vihiga County.
His three accomplices ran for their safety after villagers overpowered the suspects, leaving behind the 23-year-old identified as Bijengu Musimu who was beaten to death.
Confirming the incident, Vihiga County coordinating Commander Elisha Odhiambo said the four had invaded the home of Paulo Obando, who sustained cuts on the hands and head in the attack.
Odhiambo noted that the matter could be related to a land dispute because the suspects are well known in the area and villagers could positively identify them.
“The villagers overpowered the suspects and got hold of the deceased whom they beat to death,” said Odhiambo.
He added, “The suspects arrived at the home with a jerrycan of petrol with the intention of burning the house. Police recovered the Tanzanian army identification card from the suspect who was killed.”
He further said that no property was stolen during the incident.
The home owner was taken to Vihiga district hospital in Mbale where he is fighting for his life while the body of the slain suspect is as the hospital’s mortuary.
