Man in court for hacking wife with a panga

Nyeri - A middle-aged man accused of slashing his wife with a panga in Nyeri has been arraigned in court.
Joel Nderitu Wagura allegedly cut his wife, Elizabeth Wangechi, on the forehead thereby causing grievous harm on her.
During hearing, Wangechi informed the court that the accused person attacked her on June 22, 2014 following a disagreement over domestic issues.

She said on the fateful day, she spent the night in a neglected house in their compound because Nderitu had kicked her out of their matrimonial house.
At about midnight, Nderitu went to the neglected house and ordered Wangechi to open the door but she declined. Nderitu then broke the window and entered the house where he found the complainant struggling to open the door to escape.

She told the court that it was then that Nderitu cut her with a panga on the forehead and as he attempted a second cut, she shielded herself with her right hand.
The court heard that she was later rushed to hospital by her father-in-law who later reported the matter to the police.
