Kakamega - A somber mood engulfed residents of Kambini village in Kimilili after a man allegedly hacked his wife to death following a domestic quarrel Wednesday night.
The man, Wafula Masifwa is said to have stabbed his wife several times in the abdomen before cutting her with an axe and later throwing her body outside their house.
“Yesterday (Tuesday), they had a quarrel and the man left but returned in the evening. At night they started arguing again but after a while everything went quiet until today morning when we found her here,” said Sylvia Nambiya, a neighbour.
Her terrified children narrated the horrific incident that led to the gruesome murder of their mother saying their father tied them together, gagged their mother and descended on her with a club.
“He first beat her with a club before tying her up and gagging her mouth with a piece of cloth. After she fell down, he took a kitchen knife and stabbed her several times before hacking her with an axe on the neck,” lamented the children.
The suspect vanished before daybreak and his whereabouts are still unknown.
“The couple had had frequent misunderstandings but we never imagined it would end like this because anytime they fought, they always reconciled and would be over each other with love and affection the following day. We hope they apprehend the culprit soon,” said Vincent Wafula, a neighbour.
The area chief, David Namutali confirmed the incident and said police have launched a manhunt for the suspect.
“We have launched investigations to determine what led to the murder of the woman. We will arrest the suspect soon and after investigations, he will be taken to court,” said Namutali.
The couple had two children aged five and three years respectively who are now under the care of their grandparents.
The body of the deceased is lying at Dreamland hospital mortuary in Kimilili awaiting postmortem.
