Man hacks wife to death

01 March 2013, 17:50 James Kabotia

Tension has gripped Male Village in Laikipia Central District after a man brutally hacked his wife to death and dragged the body under the bed on Thursday night.

According to Tigithi location area Chief Wilson Thuo, the couple engaged into a tug-of-war immediately the woman returned home from her grandchild’s burial in Nairobi.

Thuo said that the man was communicating with his wife via mobile phone and suspected that she was cheating on him with another man.

“When the 45 year old Julia Njoki entered the house from Nairobi, the irate man pounced on her, thrashed her with a rungu and cut her head severally with a panga. She was even unable to scream,” said Thuo.

The administrator also said that the man wrapped the woman’s body with some paper bags and dragged it under the bed before escaping.

Their daughter Esther Wangechi who is a form 3 student returned home that evening on to find her mother’s body under the bed with a pool of blood scattered all over the room.

Before the suspect murdered his wife, he had ordered his young daughter to go and fetch firewood so that he could commit the heinous deed.

Thuo further explained that the couple had had wrangles before, got separated for a while and later came back together.

“The two had had fights before and the woman went back to her parents. Two weeks ago they were seen living together,” added Thuo.

Police in Laikipia have launched a manhunt for the suspect while Njoki’s body was taken to Nanyuki Hospital District Mortuary.
