Kakamega - Shock and disbelief has gripped Lwanda Village in Moi’s Bridge that is at the border of Uasin Gishu and Kakamega Counties after a man in the area chose to offer his 43 year old wife to a 22 year old man whom he owed KES 900, instead of clearing the debt.
Francis Kevogo offered Patrick Andabwa his wife who he has stayed with for the last 20 years and mother of his five children, in a mutual agreement that has left tongues in the village and beyond wagging.
According to neighbours, Kevogo is said to have contracted Andabwa to make bricks for him , but reneged on a promise to pay him KES 900, as they had agreed.
Its is said that Kevogo got away with the injustice of not paying his debtors every time, by accusing those he owed of having an affair with his wife, and flatly refusing to pay.
“ He always dared those he owed to take his wife if they liked, claiming that they had clandestine affairs with her. This made many people write off the debts he owed them,” said a neighbour who requested anonymity.
Surprisingly the woman, only identified by one name as Joyce did not raise any objection this time , but gladly moved in with the young man, who is nearly half her age.
“My husband has a bad habit of engaging the services of other people and refusing to pay by accusing those who owe him of having an affair with me, this is not his first attempt. I decided to go with the young man as he dared him, who luckily also agreed to take me with him,” she said.
The woman told journalists that he moved in with the young man to avoid embarrassment and constant humiliation by his husband of over two decades, which she disclosed had been abusive.
“ This is welcome relief , hope things work out in my new marriage. I am happy that my new partner loves me and has no reservation about our age differences . I do not regret anything at all,” she said.
