Nakuru - A Nakuru court has sentenced a 26-year-old man to one year in jail after he pleaded guilty to stealing utensils from his widowed mother’s kitchen.
The prosecution desk told Chief Resident Magistrate Felix Kombo that the accused, Francis Kibe who is a chronic miraa and cigarettes smoking addict, has been indulging in petty thievery activities within his parents’ home for a long time, and that he had become a great menace and disgrace to her mother.
The prosecution told the court that the accused committed the offense after he was left looking after the house as she attended a church service February 28. He later sold the utensils to obtain money to buy drugs.

The court heard that upon returning from church at around 2pm, his mother found several items missing including; two medium sized cooking pots, a kettle, glass water jag and two hotpots.
After cross examining the complainant, the prosecutor asked the court to spell a harsh punishment to the accused as he was a great disgrace to his widowed mother and members of his family.
He observed that the accused needed a stiff punishment to instigate reform and discipline in him claiming that he had adamantly dropped out of college three years ago and was unable to get any employment, something that has pushed him into drugs and theft.
