Nyeri - A Nyeri man has bagged one year jail term without the option of a fine for injuring his neighbour’s goat.
It is alleged that Peter Kigo Wairimu willfully and unlawfully maimed a goat worth KES 8 000 belonging to Adan Sora on October 19, 2013 at Witemere village in Nyeri County.
In her ruling, resident magistrate Catherine Mburu observed that the prosecution had proved the case beyond reasonable doubt since the evidence adduced in court against the convict was sufficient.
The prosecution availed six witnesses in the case but the accused did not call any witness.
He however said that there was bad blood between him and the complainant since the her children had once destroyed his motor cycle, adding that she was jealous of his hard work.
In mitigation, the accused pleaded for leniency informing the court that he is the sole breadwinner for his family.
“Since I was arrested, my children have been living in the streets as they have nobody to look after them because my wife is sick,” he said.
However, the court observed that his evidence was untenable.
