Man gets life for defiling girl, 9

Nanyuki - A middle-aged man who allegedly defiled a Class Three pupil has been sentenced to life imprisonment by a Nanyuki court.
Stephen Emathe was sentenced by Principal Magistrate Waititu Gichimo for defiling a nine-year-old girl on October 10, 2014 at Nkando village, Laikipia County.
The girl had narrated to the court that on that day at around 7.00pm, she left the accused at home after her mother sent her to get paraffin from their neighbour.
It was then that thhe accused followed her saying he had been sent by her mother to escort her.
Later, he would hold her hand and drag her into a nearby bush where he defiled her.

She added that the accused left her after the ordeal but the minor narrated the incident to her mother when she got home.
The accused was arrested later in the night by residents and escorted to Kangaita police station where the charges were preferred against him.
The minor was taken to Nanyuki hospital for treatment.
The accused denied the charges but the court observed that the prosecution had proved the case beyond reasonable doubt.
In mitigation, he prayed for leniency stating that he has five children who solely depend on him.
