Kakamega - A man who offered his 43-year-old wife to a 22-year-old man to clear a KES 900 debt, got his spouse back after repaying the debt.
Francis Kevogo who hails from Lwanda Village in Kakamega County sent tongues wagging in the country in February when he offered Patrick Andabwa his wife who he had stayed with for 20 years, in a mutual and bizarre agreement that elicited sharp reactions. (Man gives away wife to clear KES 900 debt)
According to neighbours, Kevogo managed to raise the KES 900 and went to demand for the mother of his five children from Andabwa.
Andabwa is said to have agreed to let go the woman who had been his ‘wife’ for four months after receiving the money, but he strangely changed his mind an hour later after the couple left.
“We dissuaded him after he claimed he had been fleeced by Kevogo, and insisted that he should be paid the KES 900 together with interest it had accrued, but he did not listen. He boarded a motorcycle against our wishes and followed Kevogo to his homestead and demanded to be paid interest,” a neighbour who sought anonymity explained to journalists.
"He was beaten-up thoroughly by Kevogo’s relatives and other angry residents after he showed up at his homestead, demanding for the money,” he added.
Some villagers rescued Andabwa from further beatings, and rushed him to Mabusi health center for treatment.
Efforts to get comments from the newly reunited couple proved futile, as a section of angry family members threatened to beat up journalists, who they claimed had given the family a bad name when they highlighted the story for the first time.
