Murang'a - A man has been found dead at Mumumbu village, Murang’a County after he allegedly consumed illicit brew.
The body of David Maina was found a few metres away from a homestead where he is believed to have consumed the lethal brew.
Residents said the deceased was a regular customer at the drinking den, which is owned by a woman who is renowned for the illegal business.
“She is a notorious chang’aa brewer and she has been arrested severally and the moment she is released she continues with the business,” they said.
Murang’a County Commissioner, Kula Hache however dismissed reports that the deceased died because of lethal brew stating that he was an alcoholic and was in poor health.

She further denied that the accused woman was manufacturing illicit brew.
“The said woman only buys alcohol from other places and hawks it within the area. She has been arrested occasionally and even now she has a pending case in court in connection to trading chang’aa” said Hache.
Recently, police impounded 700 litres of the brew at Kamira village and made several arrests.
The commissioner stated that the area assistant chief has since been suspended as investigations continue to determine claims that he was collecting bribes from brew manufacturers.
