A man has been fined KES 50 000 in default 1 year jail term for carrying a dangerous weapon to a public campaign forum in Nyando District.
Charles Ochieng Nudi was sentenced by Nyando Senior Principal Magistrate Dorah Chepkwony for having carried a dangerous weapon to a public forum.
Ochieng was charged with the offense which was contrary to section 88 as read with section 36 of the Penal Code.
The charge stated that on January 19, 2013 at Ahero Multipurpose Training Center, Ochieng, without lawful excuse attended a political rally while armed with a crude weapon (a sharp panga).
It stated that the weapon was deemed irritating considering that nomination exercise for a predominant political party was going on at the time of the incident and so was deemed as an act intended to cause fear and terror among voters.
By the time of going to the press, the family of Ochieng was still struggling to raise the fine so as to prevent him from serving the jail term at Kodiaga GK Prison.
