Nairobi - A man died in his sleep at a popular Nairobi bar in mysterious circumstances.
The middle aged man died Tuesday night at the popular Simmers bar and restaurant in Nairobi's CBD in what bar tenders and other revelers say was in mysterious circumstances.
The man apparently arrived at the bar just past 6 PM and proceeded to sit at the smoking zone where he smoked a couple of cigarettes.
He did not take any alcohol.
He then slept, or appeared to sleep but later on in the night, revelers, who were worried about his condition tried to wake him up, only to find him dead.
Police could not ascertain his cause of death at the scene.
" We have taken a few statements from those who were at the scene. At the moment we cannot tell if there was any ill motive for his death," a policeman who was at the scene but is not authorised to speak to the media told News24.
The man was identified as Samuel Macharia from his national identification documents.
His body was transferred to the Nairobi City mortuary.
The restaurant is well known for its live bands and is frequented mainly by foreigners, especially West Africans and Congolese as well as a high number of 'working class women'.
