Man dies after taking part in Chang'aa drinking competition

Nairobi - A drinking competition between two friends in Mikindani location Mombasa County ended tragically when one of them drunk himself to death after guzzling three big Fanta bottles(1.5 litres) of changaa in quick succession.
According to eye witness the deceased, Musa Mahmoud aged 40, was a binge drinker and no single day would pass without him visiting the drinking den.
On the fatal day, Musa accompanied his college to a local drinking den at Kwa - Mwanzia village. An argument broke out between them on who could drink faster and thus the competition begun.
" He gulped three fanta bottles of changaa and became unconscious. He started to vomit without stopping and we carried him to his house where he collapsed and died, said Omar Nzunge, the eye witness.
The deceased's body was taken to Coast General Hospital Mortuary.
News of his death caused panick among the changaa drinkers in Mikindani location with area police later in impounding the area to search for the illicit brew.
Chang'aa in some forms is illegal in Kenya, with the government working hard to cut out the sale of the brew in the country.
Just last month, over 80 people died after consuming illegal brew which was said to be laced with methanol and morphine, which are dangerous to the human body.
