Man commits suicide after being banned from inherited wife's home

Homa Bay - A 46-year-old man took his own life under unclear circumstances in the home of a woman he had inherited at Kobuya village, Karachuonyo sub-County in Homa Bay County.
The body of Stephen Goya was found dangling on a tree within the homestead of the woman who lived 50 meters from his matrimonial home.
According to a neighbour, Jacob Okwaro, the deceased had a domestic quarrel with the inherited wife a day before, and she had denied him access to her house.
“After several attempts by the man to gain access into the woman’s house failed, he resorted to hang himself,” Okwaro said.

Confirming the incident, area Chief Julius Ogol advised locals to use dialogue in resolving disputes.
He said such death could have been avoided if the family had engaged in dialogue to iron out their differences.
“It is healthy for families to embrace dialogue to solve any dispute instead of taking away lives,” Ogol said.
The body of the deceased was taken to Nyadero hospital mortuary in Kisumu County as police launch investigations into the incident.
