Man charged for being in possession of a bomb

Nakuru - A 21 year old man was on Monday charged at Nakuru Law courts for being in possession of a bomb.
Resident magistrate Rita Amwanyi was told that John Gitonga a boda boda rider was arrested on 21 December, 2013 with a 90mm bomb at a bar along the Oginga Odinga road in Nakuru town.
While reading the charges, prosecutor Eric Ochieng said that Gitonga was arrested by a police officer who had tipped by members’ of the public that there was a man who wanted to sell a bomb.
Ochieng told the court that the officer posed as a potential buyer of the bomb and lured Gitonga into a bar where he appeared with the bomb wrapped in a paper bag.
The prosecutor said that the suspect was latter arrested by police officers who were on standby at the bar.
While defending himself, Gitonga said that he found the bomb at Menengai Crater and took it to his home.
Persecutor directed the suspect to be released on a KES 500,000 with a surety of similar amount or cash bail of KES 300,000.
The case will be mentioned on 16 of January and to be heard on 3 of April next year.
