A young man from Mugunda village in Kieni District allegedly assaulted his mother mercilessly and leaving her with serious injuries.

His mother Magdaline Nyawira, 59, sustained grievous injuries which led to her hospitalization at the Narumoro Hospital.

Sources said that Nyawira prevented Karugu from milking their only dairy cow on the grounds that it was not yet time to do so, and also she preferred the younger son who is a form one student to do the milking.

“He battered me asking when I will ever stop disturbing him," she lamented.

The incident occurred at the kitchen after meals as the mother was preparing to attend a fundraising ceremony in their village to assist a young boy trying to raise school fees.

Karugu irritably took the milking bucket, hit the old woman at the forehead before she fell on a stone; he continued hitting her with his gumboots.

The commotion attracted villagers who came to her rescue.

She bleeded profusely and fainted on the spot.

His younger brother who had gone to draw water from his aunt’s came speedily to rescue his mother upon hearing the screams from their kitchen.

In response, Karugu chased him with a piece of firewood.

Karugu is the third born in the family of four children.

He was arrested and taken to Narumoru police station awaiting to be arraigned in court for trial.
