A man in Kyeni West, Nyeri County, allegedly assaulted his estranged concubine causing serious injuries on her after she called him a 'goat thief'.
Patrick Maina wanjau had taken his cattle to take water in Ruai village when he met Mary Nyawira Wang'ombe who started calling him a thief immediately after seeing him.
According to Wanjau, Nyawira was his concubine last year and they had lived together for nine months before his real wife intervened and filed a case challenging the relationship.
Both Wanjau and Nyawira were summoned by area chief and ordered to terminate the relationship.
His wife had informed chief that his husband neglected them and some of her children were almost dropping out of school due to financial constraints.
Wanjau said he had sold some of his cattle to start business but never succeeded after falling in love with Nyawira.
However, Wanjau refuted Nyawira's assertions that he slapped her claiming that Nyawira started screaming when she saw him and fell down.
"I didn't touch her whatsoever," said Wanjau.
