Man arrested for stealing purse in courtroom

Nanyuki - A young man has been arraigned in a Nanyuki court for stealing within the court premises.
George Mugambi however denied the allegations before the chief magistrate Evanson Bett.
He was charged with stealing a purse containing documents and KES 5 400 belonging to Charity Wangui in Nanyuki law courts.
Wangui told the court that she had attended court hearings and while in the courtroom, her child started crying and had to go out leaving behind her bag.
Eyewitnesses said that the accused took the purse and then walked out.
"I thought he was with the complainant," narrated an eyewitness.

The complainant reported the matter to the security officers who were manning the court but the accused had vanished.
Later, the accused person who had been identified by one security officer was arrested in Nanyuki town and escorted to Nanyuki police station.
In his defense, the suspect told the court that he was arrested for no reason.
