Laikipia - Six suspects have been arrested in Kirinyaga County in connection with the mysterious disappearance of 55-year-old Francis Mburu Gakumbi three weeks ago.
Among the suspects is the victim's brother. The six were arrested Tuesday by police following what the law enforcers described as intensive investigations by CID officers.
Confirming the arrest, Kirinyaga County acting police commander, John Kamau, said that the suspects were picked by sleuth from their hideout after investigations.
He said that the victim's brother has already confessed to police that he planned the kidnapping in order to raise money to start a business.
Kamau revealed that the suspects informed police that the victim was kidnapped and taken to an undisclosed area in Isiolo County saying that police are working around the clock to save his life.
Addressing press at his office, the police boss said that the suspects have cooperated with police and have given crucial information which may lead to recovery of the victim.
He termed the incident as shocking saying it was unfortunate to see a family member conspiring and planning to kidnap his own brother for monetary gain.
The police boss said that the suspects will be arraigned in court immediately investigations are completed.
Francis Mburu Gakumbi was kidnapped at Kianguenyi shopping centre where he was last seen speaking on his phone.
His family lamented that their effort to trace him has been futile since they have looked for him in all hospitals, mortuaries and police stations without success.
The said that they feared that Gakumbi could have been killed since he was entangled in leadership wrangles with other officials of Riamiatu water project.
However, police commander dismissed the claims saying that the matter was purely criminal with the sole intention of obtaining money from the victim.
He termed the allegations of leadership wrangles as red herring saying that family members were involved.
