Sotik - Residents of Daraja Sita village in Sotik Constituency were shocked to find a 60-year-old man having carnal knowledge of a cow.
The man, only identified as James, was found in the act in the evening hours but managed to escape to an unknown destination.
The residents had to do a search for the amorous man but could not find him.
On realizing that he was wanted for the heinous crime, James surrendered himself to the village elder who in turn called for a meeting with the owner of the cow and the old men of the village.
The man pleaded guilty to the charges and in pleading for leniency from the irate villagers, he said he said he was starving sexually as his wife was no longer interested in him.
The villagers then agreed to take him to Sotik Police Station to record a statement but because of his age and that of his mother, it was agreed that he take the cow and buy another one to the owner and pay a fine of KES 40 000.
“The villagers agreed that if he was taken to prison, his elderly mother might die of shock and stress,” said an elder who participated in the hearing of the case.

Many residents who spoke to News24 revealed that this was not the first time the man was caught in such acts.
"I once saw semen in my cow and became suspicious as it was not on heat. I then decided to call the Veterinary Doctor who examined the semen and revealed that it indeed belonged to a human being,” said Joseph, a villager.
What shocked many was the fact that the man is married with grown up children but is rumoured to have been sleeping separately from his wife.
Many women who spoke to News24 expressed their sympathy and apathy towards the man saying it is absurd for an elderly man to engage in such acts.
“It is shameful for a man to have sex with a cow whereas there are several women in the village. Such a thing should never happen again as it not only brings disrepute to the whole village but also negates the morals that have all along been advocated for by the elders,” said an agitated woman only identified as Sarah.
