Nairobi - If you were thinking Willy M. Tuva’s show dubbed “Mambo Mseto” is localized and listened to only in East Africa, then you are dead wrong.
This was made clear after a picture of Akon wearing a Mseto Africa t-shirt was posted by Willy himself on his Facebook page.
For the avid Mambo Mseto fan, this comes as no surprise with the kind of artist’s representation that goes on in the show.
Willy M. Tuva has grown to become radio’s biggest brand across East Africa with the show, surpassing some of the all-time greats like Caroline Mutoko and Maina Kageni.
The show covers all the angles when it comes to music related matters, from hot new releases to news and gossip on the artists that the fans would be interested in.
The show this week featured one of the architects of “Genge” music, Juacali, in an episode that touched on the airplay issue in East Africa.
In the interview, he said that the DJ’s being the connection between the artists and the masses should play less West African content and play more local music.
He also insisted that for music from East Africa to move forward, we need to stop trying to imitate West African music and be original.
