Malindi needs a new fire engine

Malindi leaders want the government through the Ministry of local government to provide a Fire engine to assist put off fire in the region.

They said the area is prone to fire incidents simply because most of the tourist's Hotels are built using makuti thatch making it difficult to be put off by the available Fire engine which they claimed is too old.

Malindi deputy Mayor said that the available Fire engine always inconveniences them whenever they have a fire emergency.

Speaking at Malindi county council Hall during Kilifi , Lamu and Tana River familiarization tour by acting Minister for Local Government Fred Gumo, Malindi deputy Mayor Fuad Rudeny said Malindi urgently needs a fire engine.

Rudeny went on to add that properties worth millions are always are reduced to ashes since the available fire fighting machine is not sufficient.

"We always loose millions because of fires which reduce tourists Hotels and private villas to ashes as we watch helplessly.

In the recent past about 40 private villas and hotels were reduced to ashes causing millions of shillings go to waste as people watched fire helplessly gutting down structures at the tourist hub.
