Makueni County likely to crash and burn

26 September 2014, 14:29 William Korir

Nairobi - The Council of Governors says it will not allow the mad scenes taking place in Makueni County.

Makueni has recently disintegrated into a farce with lack of actual activity taking place at the County Assembly following disagreements between the Governor's office and Members of County Assemblies.

A group of MCA's has insisted on taking down the Governor with an impeachment motion being planned.

But with opposition to the impeachment at its highest and the recent violence which saw five people shot and injured, there has been a deep tract created.

" We are completely against the ongoing violence and problems that have taken place in Makueni County in the last few weeks, Council chairman Isaac Ruto said.

He added that it was prudent that there be talks to solve the problems occurring but if necessary, then the need to dissolve the government.

" There is need for serious dialogue but if that does not solve the problems, then there is need to look at dissolution, he added.

Governor Kivutha Kibwana believes that dialogue will solve the issues currently taking place but if not will invite the president to dissolve the government.

" If we fail to get a solution to the current impasse then I will ask the president to dissolve the government and seek new elections, he said.

" This however, will only be after the people of Makueni agree to his proposal of dissolution, he added.

Kibwana added that because of the current issues, there is little or no business taking place at the County.
