Imenti South Agricultural Officer, Joseph Mugambi urged Meru Maize farmers to adopt crop rotation following the already spreading of Maize Lethal Necrosis Disease.
This was in a bid to avert the high possibilities of lingering food insecurities in the area if warning given by the government were not followed to the latter.
"The government has put maize farmers all over the regions vulnerable on high alert since Necrosis disease could end up wiping the whole season's crop,"Mugambi said while addressing the farmers.
Mugambi added that farmers should be on the look out for symptoms and work in conjunction with his office to ensure that the disease does not hit them unawares.
He also warned the farmers to purchase their seeds from credible sources in order to avoid buying contaminated seedling which could spread disease. Mugambi dispelled fears that the disease could affect this seasons harvest saying the region will remain food secure.
