Nairobi - This week began on a rather fiery note for people in the
music industry and the media world after artists from across the country came
together to demonstrate in the streets of Nairobi.
The demonstrations were
brought about by what the artist’s term as unfair airplay for international
artists. They claimed that they were being given little to no airplay by the
local media stations, demanding a dramatic increase in the amount of airplay.
Kenyan rapper Chiwawa took to social media to complain about
this bias, hitting out to famed Classic 105 presenter Maina Kageni for comments
he allegedly made.
According to the post, the radio host said that Kenyan music
is “Wack”, sparking a furious reaction from Chiwawa and his fellow artists.
post read, “Naskia Maina Kageni alisema Kenyan music is wack. Well you don't
have to like it bro just do your damn job and play it. After that you can go
have a beer as you wait for your salary.
Musicians create jobs for radio
presenters not the other way round. Fool wewe.?#takeover #70%airplay”.
