Machakos Governor Mutua files plea to escape EACC probe
08 July 2014, 17:23
Nairobi - The High Court will listen to a plea by Machakos Governor Alfred Mutua to have criminal proceedings against him stopped on Wednesday.
The Governor is seeking orders stopping the Ethics and Anti Corruption Commision EACC from investigating him for alleged misappropriation of procurement procedures.
Mutua is being accused of engaging in malpractices in the purchase of vehicles in the county.
Through Lawyer Alfred Nyamu, he says that he is not mandated in any way to take charge of procurement proceedings and that the buck does not stop at his desk.
He argues that if he is summoned and investigated by the EACC, it will do damage to his reputation which is unwarranted.
" The rights of my client and his deputy will be infringed if a ruling is not made distancing them from the alleged mis-procedures named, he said in his submission.
The case will be heard by Justice Isaac Lenaola Wednesday morning.
