MP welcomes URP - TNA alliance

03 December 2012, 10:49 Kelvin Mureithi

Imenti North Member of Parliament Silas Muriuki has welcomed the alliance between the United Republican Party (URP) and The National Alliance (TNA) saying it will bring peaceful coexistence between respective communities within the two parties.

Speaking to the media in Meru recently, Muriuki said there is a likelihood that there will be no tribal clashes after the forthcoming General elections since the two parties will be under one alliance and these were the communities that differed during the last general elections.

Regarding the ongoing voter registration exercise, the MP expressed dissatisfaction at the way the exercise was being conducted saying the IBEC had failed to keep its word.

He said there is rampant transportation of voters from neighboring constituencies to Imenti North constituency.

He singled out a voter registration center within Meru town and near the police station which he said was receiving voters from a neighboring constituency he did not want to name.

Muriuki said Kaithe and Ngine polling stations had no voter registration materials forcing people to go back home without voters cards.

He noted that the exercise was being sabotaged by IEBC officials who were not adhering to the law, adding that it was not right to rotate registration material from one center to another.

The MP appealed to wananchi to turn up in large numbers and register as voters as this was the only way they could exercise their right to vote.
