Busia - Busia women representative Florence Mutua has threatened to lead a protest of stakeholders if Agriculture secretary Felix Kosgey will import sugar into the country.
In a text message on Thursday, Mutua said there was enough sugar in the country to warrant importation of even a single bag.

“If the CS does not call off the planned importation we shall ask all sugar stakeholders to go and camp in his office until he rescinds the move,” Mutua said.
Also, she wondered why the government should import sugar when farmers have tons of the commodity in their stores.
“The closure of Mumias and West Kenya Sugar companies for maintenance was a temporary measure. How can now lead to the sudden shortage when the same companies were complaining there a glut of sugar in their
stores?" She asked.
Mutua threatened to expose the cartels behind this alleged shortage if the government will not suspend this planned importation.
