Mombasa - Ganze Member of Parliament, Peter Shehe wants the government to take tough disciplinary action against the immigration officers who are illegally issuing national identity cards to foreigners.
Shehe wants the government to investigate all immigration officials currently holding public office and arrest those found registering foreigners without proper documentation.
“Those who are illegally issuing national identity cards to foreigners should be held accountable,” said Shee in a press conference at Whitesands Hotel in Mombasa county Thursday.
The immigration department which is the only government institution mandated to carry out citizen registration faces police investigation for allegedly registering people without proper documentation.
The Member of Parliament wants the government to come up with a proper strategy of dealing with the insecurity and terror threats in the country.
The police department and the intelligence service have in the past few weeks been blamed for failing to combat criminal activities effectively.
His sentiments come as the country faces severe terror attacks and threats from the Al Shabaab group.
Last week, police held two terror suspects who were alleged to have been involved in terror attacks at the Mombasa Nyali beach and Mwembe Tayari areas in Mombasa County.
