MP wants EACC bosses to resign

27 April 2015, 11:33 Joseph Njung'eh

Nairobi - The suspended EACC chairman, Mumo Matemu with his deputy, Irene Keino, should resign from office and pave way for new competent commissioners, Kieni MP Kanini Kega has said.

Kega asked the duo to leave office completely instead of waiting for a report from the investigating tribunal.

“Matemu and Keino should quit office because they have failed in their jobs. They will save their names, integrity and public resources by leaving willingly,” said the MP.

Speaking during a parents’ meeting at Narumoru Girls High School, Kega added that the two officers have no passion to fight graft in the country.

“Since they assumed office, they have done very little and have absolutely nothing to show. Matemu entered that office under controversial circumstances because he was rated fourth in the interviews,” he alleged.

The first-term MP further expressed confidence that newly appointed Public Accounts Committee (PAC) members will restore confidence in the committee which was recently marred with corruption allegations.

He however said the Namwamba-led team did a recommendable job since they were tabling audited financial and budget reports in a timely manner.

Kega has since been appointed a PAC member, replacing Cecily Mbarire.

“The reports were very crucial for devolved governments and to monitor absorption of funds. Namwamba team was doing a commendable job. The new team has a task ahead and will have a beyond reproach leadership,” he added.
