Mutito MP Kiema Kilonzo has threatened to stop the ongoing coal mining projects in coal-rich Mui basin in his constituency if his constituents were not given the dully agreed 30 per cent stake in the project.
This was after he and a group of local community representatives visited the coal mines belonging to Chinese company Fenxi Industry Mining Group, that landed the contract for part of the coal mining rights in Mui.
Kilonzo vowed to see the stoppage of the project unless the intrests of the locals are guaranteed.
"I want to warn the Ministry of Energy that I will use the court of law and mobilise the shooting down of the Coal Mining Bill once it comes to the parliament unless the intrests of the locals are given due regards," Kilonzo retorted.
While addressing a media conference at his Kavalula village rural home in Kyuluni area during the weekend after returning home after a tour of China, Kiema further warned that he will not sit back and watch his people being shortchanged as long as he is their parliamentary representative.
