MP thrashed for raping his daughter

04 June 2015, 14:57 Godfrey Olukya

Kampala - A member of parliament in eastern Uganda's district of Namutumba is nursing wounds after being beaten up by his constituents for raping his daughter.

He sustained several injuries on his body including a split lip.

A few weeks ago, the MP's daughter allegedly told some people that her father had raped her several times.

''Our MP Aspasa Mpongo had come to address us about intentions by government to split our constituency into two,'' said a local leader, Amon Dhakaba.

He  added that some youths came with sticks which they used to beat up the MP immediately he started addressing the meeting.

''They beat him as they shouted: 'Why did you rape you daughter? You are not fit to be our MP','' Dhakaba said.

On seeing this, his supporters joined the battle and exchanged blows with those who were beating him.

Police, led by Namutumba district police commader Richard Wafula rushed to the scene and restored order.

Wafula said two youths were severely injured during the fight and were rushed to Namutumba hospital.

However, the MP denied the allegations of rape, saying they were being made by his opponents so that people do not vote him in 2016.
