MP faults CRA over county allocation formula
02 July 2014, 20:40
Nyeri - The Nyeri County women’s representative, Priscillah Nyokabi on Wednesday faulted the county allocation formula used by the Commission for
Revenue Allocation (CRA).
Nyokabi said the formula used to determine how much money goes to
each county government is not favourable to some.
For instance, Nyokabi said, the County received KES.3.9 Billion
because it was assumed to be rich and having low poverty levels.
Speaking at Green Hills hotel, after a meeting with women MCAs, Nyokabi said the allocation criteria should be reviewed.
Currently, the county government’s recurrent expenditure is 69
per cent leaving very little for development.
The MP further explained that counties that were previously
serving as provincial headquarters inherited staff and other workers, thus
leading to huge wage bill.
