MP elect wants fuel cost reduced
20 March 2013, 12:51
The MP elect for Imenti North Constituency Rahim Dawood is appealing to the government to review the cost of fuel by decreasing its cost saying high fuel costs would hurt ordinary mwananchi and also increase the cost of living.
Speaking to the media in Meru on Wednesday, Rahim said KES 4 increase of fuel price per liter was too high and would hurt business saying transporters and those in the matatu industry would be forced to review their prices and cost of transportation to beat the cost of fuel.
He said there was no need to increase fuel costs since the dollar is still low at a rate of between KES 85 - 88.
He said the fuel price increase has come at a bad time saying it would hurt the business community.
The cost of fuel shot up three days ago with fuel dealers hoarding the product and thus creating artificial shortage of fuel in Meru town until the price increase was announced.
