MP denies being in love with a 23-year-old lady

15 April 2014, 08:16 James Kabotia

Laikipia - Laikipia East MP Anthony Mutahi has distanced himself from accusations that he had a love affair with a 23-year-old lady from Kiambu County.

Addressing the media at Mirera village in his constituency, Mutahi said the lady and her family are extortionists who thrive on blackmail.

The legislator however said that he met the lady, Ann Wangui who had come to seek financial assistance from him.

"It is true I met with her but I was not ready to marry a person during the first encounter," he said.

The divorced MP added that no one can be forced to marry another person, saying marriage is a personal decision that cannot be influenced in whichever way.

"Wangui might have had very high expectations and that is why she rushed to the media to complain," he said.

Few weeks ago, Wangui and her mother came out in one of the weekly newspapers accusing the lawmaker of having cohabited with her before chasing her away, the allegations he vehemently denied.

He however said he will not take a legal action against her, adding that that would be a waste of time and energy.

The father of two sons said he will marry soon, though he did not disclose the name of who he intends to marry.
