Nyeri - Gichugu MP, Njogu Barua has claimed that his life is in danger over his concerted efforts to eradicate manufacturing and retailing of second generation brews in his area.
Barua said there has been an attempt on his life and that he has already recorded a statement with the police.
He said that second generation brew manufactures are unhappy with his crusade to stop the manufacture and consumption of illicit brews and are now scheming his downfall.
“I know they have paid some goons to try and fight me politically but God is with me,” he said.
Barua, who was speaking at Kamwana area in his constituency, said he has information about a meeting held last week by owners of second generation brew factories to map their retaliation plot.

He said the same people have raised money which they have used to hire individuals to spread falsehood in the hope that they would intimidate him.
“I remain strong and will not relent in the fight against second generation brews in Gichugu. I know the public is with me and that gives me the strength,” he added.
He said he will not be cowed by the threats and vowed to soldier on saying that fight against illicit brew must continue.
He said the same brewers had filed a case in Kerugoya high court seeking restraining orders in the hope that they would be allowed to resume their illegal business.
